University of Oregon rules on translated transcripts

The University of Oregon publishes different wording for undergraduate and graduate applicants, and the difference matters before you pay for anything.

For international undergraduate applicants, UO says translations should come from the school, the Ministry of Education in the home country or a similar government education office, or an NACES-accredited translation company. The translation must be literal, must include all information on the original, and grades should not be converted to a US scale. Originals are normally submitted together with the English version.

For graduate admission, UO says: if your original documents are not in English, include a certified English translation. It suggests an embassy or consulate, the American Translators Association or University Language Services as places to look, and may ask for a WES ICAP evaluation when it cannot determine degree equivalency.

If you are applying as an undergraduate, ask UO admissions whether a translation from our company meets its source requirement before you order. Our translations are complete and literal, with no grade conversion.

Languages spoken in Eugene

Census Bureau QuickFacts, using 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey data, reports that 11.3 percent of Eugene residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home and 7.0 percent of residents were born outside the United States. Lane County as a whole has a smaller foreign-born share, about 5.3 percent, so demand in the county is concentrated in the city and around the university.

Spanish is the language we are asked for most often. Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Czech follow.

How to order from Eugene

  • Upload. Send a PDF, JPEG, PNG or Word file through the quote form. A clear phone photo of each page is enough for a quote.
  • Confirm. We reply with the price, from $65 per page, and the delivery date. Most jobs take 1 to 2 business days.
  • Receive. You get the translation with its signed certificate of accuracy. Ask for notarization of the translator’s statement if an apostille will follow.
  • Originals. If paper originals have to change hands, we can pick up and drop off, and mobile service is available after hours anywhere in Oregon. Call (971) 514-3743 to arrange it.

USCIS and consular filings from Lane County

Federal regulation 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) requires any foreign language document sent to USCIS to come with a full English translation that the translator certifies as complete and accurate, along with a statement that the translator is competent in both languages. That is the format of our certificate. USCIS does not have an office in Eugene; its Oregon field office and Application Support Center are listed in Portland.

For Mexican civil documents, the Consulate of Mexico at 1305 SW 12th Avenue in Portland lists Lane County among the 32 Oregon counties it serves.

From Eugene to the apostille counter in Salem

Oregon apostilles are issued only by the Secretary of State, Corporation Division, 255 Capitol St. NE, Suite 151, Salem, OR 97310. The counter is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A state mileage chart puts Salem 66 miles from Eugene, straight up Interstate 5, so a same-day round trip to the counter is realistic if you prefer to walk your documents in. Mailing them is the other option.

The state does not translate documents. A translation has to be notarized before the state will apostille it, the original notarized document is required, and photocopies are refused. The state fee is $10 per apostille. Lane County marriage copies need the certifying county official’s printed name and signature, and state-issued vital records need the State Registrar’s signature.

If you would rather not make the drive, our handling fee is $195 plus $20 for each additional document, completed next day or within 5 business days.
