Who needs translated documents in Beaverton

About 26.9 percent of Beaverton residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home, and 19.4 percent of residents were born outside the United States, according to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts for 2020 to 2024.

The City of Beaverton’s own Language Access Policy, adopted in January 2015, ranks the languages the city plans around. Spanish is the one language in its first tier. Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Korean form the second tier, and Japanese and Russian the third. Our most requested languages overlap heavily with that list: Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Russian, plus Hindi, Urdu and Czech.

Foreign transcripts and Portland Community College

Many Beaverton students attend Portland Community College, whose Rock Creek Campus is at 17705 NW Springville Road. PCC’s rule for foreign coursework is specific and worth reading before you pay for a translation.

To receive transfer credit, PCC requires an evaluation from a credential evaluation service that is a member of NACES, in the Course-By-Course Detail format, sent directly to PCC Student Records. PCC tells students to send official, untranslated transcripts and course descriptions to that evaluation service. Ask the evaluator what it wants before ordering anything from us.

International student admission is different. PCC asks that bank documents and company sponsorship letters be in English or come with an official translation into English. That is the kind of document we translate and certify.

Immigration filings from Beaverton

Federal regulation 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) says any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS must come with a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and accurate, along with the translator’s certification of competence to translate from that language into English.

Our certificate of accuracy is written to cover those points. We cannot promise that USCIS or any other agency will accept a particular document, because that decision belongs to the agency.

From Beaverton to an Oregon apostille

If your translation is going to another country, the receiving authority may ask for an apostille. In Oregon that comes from the Secretary of State’s Corporation Division at 255 Capitol St. NE, Suite 151, Salem, OR 97310. The counter is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Three state rules matter. The Secretary of State does not translate documents. A translation has to be notarized before the state will apostille it. The state needs the original notarized document, not a photocopy, and charges $10 per apostille.

From Beaverton, Salem is reached by Highway 217 and Interstate 5 south, so a counter visit means a round trip on a weekday. If you would rather not make it, we notarize the translator’s statement and handle the apostille for a $195 handling fee plus $20 for each additional document, completed next day or within 5 business days.

An Oregon birth or death certificate being apostilled on its own must carry the State Registrar’s signature, or the printed name and signature of the certifying county official.
