Records from both Washington and Oregon: which state apostilles what
Each state authenticates only its own documents. The Washington Secretary of State says that a vital record issued in another state must be apostilled in the state that issued it. The Oregon Secretary of State authenticates Oregon notarizations, Oregon vital records (birth, death, marriage and dissolution certificates) and Oregon school transcripts and diplomas.
So if your birth certificate is from Oregon and your marriage certificate is from Clark County, they go to two different offices.
| Washington documents | Washington Secretary of State, Corporations and Charities Division, PO Box 40234, Olympia, WA 98504-0234. $15.00 per document. |
|---|---|
| Oregon documents | Oregon Secretary of State, Public Service Building, 255 Capitol St. NE, Suite 151, Salem, OR 97310. $10 per apostille. Originals only; photocopies are not accepted. |
| Notarized personal documents | Washington apostilles documents notarized by a Washington state notary. Oregon authenticates Oregon notarizations. |
