What Colorado State University says about translated records

Colorado State University publishes the same rule in several places, and it is worth reading the one that matches your application.

  • First-year international applicants. CSU Admissions states that if a record is not in English, a certified literal English translation must accompany the official transcript. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the school or be stamped and sealed.
  • Transfer and second bachelor’s applicants. The Office of International Enrollment’s guide repeats that a certified English translation must accompany an official transcript that is not in English.
  • Graduate applicants. The Graduate Bulletin says international transcripts not in English must be submitted in the original language along with a certified English translation, both at application and when official transcripts are filed. If the transcript does not show the degree and date awarded, a diploma is also required.

Front Range Community College

Front Range Community College handles foreign credit differently. Its transfer credit page says international transcripts must be translated and evaluated through a course by course evaluation by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), with the official report sent directly to the registrar. Students may also be asked for English-translated course descriptions. Check with the evaluation agency you choose about the translation it will accept before you order one.

Federal cases are heard by the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, whose listed locations are in Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction and Durango.

Under Chief Justice Directive 06-03, Colorado courts assign and pay for interpreters for parties in court proceedings and must use certified or credentialed interpreters when one is available in the language. The Justice Center’s page links to the Judicial Branch form for requesting an interpreter. Written evidence in another language is a separate matter: ask the clerk or your lawyer how the court wants a translation presented.

Translations for USCIS

The federal rule at 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) says any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS must be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and accurate, plus the translator’s certification of competence to translate from that language into English. The regulation does not ask for notarization. We supply a signed certificate covering both statements, but the decision to accept any filing rests with the agency.

The apostille route from Fort Collins

An apostille for a Colorado document comes from one place: the Colorado Secretary of State at 1700 Broadway, Suite 550, Denver, CO 80290. Larimer County offices issue the underlying certified copies but not the apostille, and requests cannot be made online.

  • By mail. Send the original document, the completed request form and payment. The form shows $5 per apostille. Standard return mail is free, or you can enclose a prepaid FedEx or UPS label. Mailed requests are worked in the order received.
  • In person. Hand deliver before 4:30 p.m. for expedited service at $15 per apostille. The office tries to process while you wait.
  • Payment. Cash, check or money order only. No cards.
  • What qualifies. Certified copies from Colorado vital records offices, county clerk and recorders, courts and the Secretary of State, and documents properly notarized by a Colorado notary. The notary statement must be in English even if the document is not.

Ordering a translation from Fort Collins

Upload a PDF, JPEG, PNG or Word file through the quote form. You will get a quote and a completion date; pricing begins at $65 per page.

Of the 100 languages we translate, Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Czech are requested most. If yours is not on that list, ask.

We can have the translator’s statement notarized on request. That notarization does not come from a Colorado notary, and the Colorado Secretary of State apostilles only Colorado notarizations and records, so tell us where the document is going. We can also help with apostilles. Call (971) 514-3743 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
