The Delaware apostille office is in Dover

Dover is where every Delaware apostille is issued. The Secretary of State’s Division of Corporations handles apostilles and authentications from the John G. Townsend Building, so someone in Dover can deliver documents by hand instead of mailing them. The Division asks you to call (302) 739-3077 to schedule an appointment for hand delivery. Requests are typically processed the same business day.

The fee is $30 per document for commercial use. For personal use the Division charges $30 for any documents presented together. Include a cover memo that names the country where the document will be used.

Two rules matter for translations. A document in a foreign language must have an English translation, and both versions must be notarized. The Division will not accept a document notarized in another state, or one notarized remotely or electronically. A translation headed for a Delaware apostille therefore needs a Delaware notary. We can have the translator’s statement notarized, but that is done outside Delaware, so tell us the destination country first and we will explain which route fits. We also help with apostilles.

Marriage licenses when one person does not speak English

The Kent County Clerk of the Peace publishes a specific rule: a third-party translator is required if one party does not speak English, and that person must be at least 18 years old and carry proper identification. Applicants who were married before must bring the original or a certified copy of the divorce decree, annulment or death certificate. The county page does not say what it expects when that paper is in another language, so ask the Clerk’s office at 302-744-2346 before you apply.
