What the University of Kansas says about translated transcripts
KU publishes its document rules on separate pages for graduate, undergraduate and law applicants. The points below are taken from those pages. KU does not name who may prepare a translation, so confirm with the admitting office if you are unsure.
- Graduate applicants. KU states that transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied with English translations.
- What counts as official. An international transcript must show proof of coursework completion, the degree earned and the date it was conferred, and an official stamp or seal from the school. Printouts from a student portal are not accepted.
- Timing. Scanned official transcripts can be attached to the application, though some departments want official copies at that stage. Admitted students must submit an official final transcript before their second semester.
- Degrees from China. KU also asks for a CSSD (formerly CHESICC) verification report.
- Undergraduate applicants. KU International Admissions lists the secondary school records required by country and asks for them with English translation. Unofficial transcripts can be used to apply, but official ones must arrive before enrollment.
- School of Law LL.M. Applicants submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and law school programs attended.
How to order a translation from Lawrence
Scan or photograph every page, including stamps, seals and anything on the back, and upload the files as PDF, JPEG, PNG or Word through the quote form. We send a price before any work begins. Translations start at $65 per page.
Keep your original transcript or diploma. A translation accompanies the original record and does not replace it, so the university or agency will still want the document issued by your school or government. We offer 100 languages, most often Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Czech. For any other language, ask us first. Reach the office at (971) 514-3743 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Immigration filings from Lawrence
Students changing status, spouses and employees filing with USCIS face the same federal requirement. Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), each foreign-language document needs a full English translation, the translator’s certification that it is complete and accurate, and the translator’s certification of competence to translate from that language into English.
The regulation asks for a translator’s certification and says nothing about a notary. Kansas law also bars a notary who is not an attorney from using the title ‘notario publico’ and from giving advice on immigration matters.
Sending a Lawrence document to Topeka for an apostille
A diploma, transcript, vital record or notarized statement going to a country in the Hague Apostille Convention needs an apostille from the Kansas Secretary of State. The office is in the Docking State Office Building, 915 SW Harrison Street, Topeka, KS 66612, and takes requests by mail or in-person delivery.
Include a completed Form DC, the original document or a certified copy, and $10.00 for each document, the fee in effect since March 2, 2026. The office returns documents by U.S. mail, with FedEx available if you provide card information on the form. Its phone number is 785-296-4564.
The Secretary of State lists documents notarized by a Kansas notary among those it can apostille, and it accepts foreign-language documents provided the notarization is in English. For a translation that must be notarized for Kansas, we hire a notary commissioned in Kansas to notarize the translator’s statement. Certified Kansas birth, death, marriage and divorce records are issued by the Office of Vital Statistics in Topeka for $20 a copy.
