Saint Paul is where Minnesota apostilles are issued

As the state capital, Saint Paul is home to the one office that issues Minnesota apostilles: the Office of the Secretary of State, at First National Bank Building, 332 Minnesota Street, Suite N201, Saint Paul, MN 55101. Every apostille request in the state, whether mailed or brought in, ends up at this downtown address.

Being in the same city does not mean you can drop by. The office does not take walk-ins. Appointments open 14 days in advance, each appointment covers up to 10 documents, and you bring the certified or notarized originals with you. You can also mail a request with the Authentication Request Form. The fee is $5.00 per apostille. In person the office accepts cards, cash, checks and money orders. By mail it takes a check or money order payable to MN Secretary of State.

For a translated document, the office says the notarization must be in English and the rest may be in any language. The translation and the original record each need their own apostille. If your translation has to be notarized for Minnesota, we hire a notary commissioned in Minnesota to notarize the translator’s statement, and we can help you prepare the apostille request.

Court interpreting and document translation are separate things. The Minnesota Judicial Branch certifies interpreters and says translation of written text is a different activity, so ask court administration what form a translated exhibit should take.
