Santa Fe is where New Mexico apostilles are issued
As the state capital, Santa Fe is home to the office that issues every New Mexico apostille. The Secretary of State’s Business Services Division is at 325 Don Gaspar Ave., Suite 300, Santa Fe, NM 87501. For a Santa Fe resident that means the request can be made in person as well as online or by mail; the Secretary of State lists all three options.
The fee is $3.00 per document, and the request form allows one document per form. The office is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and says requests are processed Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It apostilles documents notarized by a New Mexico notary and public documents issued by County Clerks and the State Registrar of Vital Records.
If the country receiving your document wants the translation apostilled as well, the translator’s statement must be notarized first. For a New Mexico apostille, we hire a notary commissioned in New Mexico to notarize that statement.
State vital records are also in Santa Fe
The Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics keeps New Mexico birth and death records and has its main office in the city. A certified birth certificate costs $10 per copy. The Secretary of State notes that a notary cannot certify a photocopy of a birth, death or marriage certificate, so you need a certified copy from the issuing office before asking for an apostille.

The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A marriage license costs $55.00 and certified copies are $5.00 each. The clerk welcomes walk-ins but recommends an appointment, and publishes its marriage license requirements in Spanish as well as English.
Courts that serve Santa Fe
New Mexico state courts provide interpreters at no cost to parties, witnesses and jurors who need them. Court policy leaves the translation of case materials to the attorneys and parties, so a foreign-language exhibit is usually translated before it is offered.
