Getting the Ogden record you need translated
Many requests begin with a birth, death or marriage record. Ogden City does not issue these itself and directs residents to the Weber-Morgan Health Department.
The state vital records office limits who may order a certificate to the person named on it, immediate family, legal guardians and designated legal representatives. Have your ID ready, and proof of relationship if the record is not your own.
- Birth and death certificates. Weber-Morgan Health Department, Vital Records, 477 23rd Street, Room 130, Ogden, UT 84401, phone 801-399-7130. The office issues Utah birth records from the last 100 years and Utah death records from the last 50 years.
- Marriage and divorce certificates. The health department can issue Utah marriage and divorce certificates for 1978 to 2010.
- Weber County marriage licenses. Weber County Clerk/Auditor, 2380 Washington Boulevard, Suite 320, Ogden, UT 84401. A certified copy is $10.00 and can be ordered online or in person.
- Divorce decrees. The health department refers you to the district court for a decree.
- State fee schedule. Effective July 1, 2026: $25 birth certificate, $35 death certificate, $10 for each additional copy of the same record.
Weber State University and foreign transcripts
Weber State’s international admissions page asks for official transcripts and a diploma showing the date of completion, and adds: include certified translation into English, if necessary.
If you want credit for college work completed outside the United States, Weber State requires a course-by-course evaluation by a foreign credential evaluation company. Its page points to members of NACES or AICE. Each evaluator publishes its own translation requirements, so read those before you order.

The apostille route from Ogden
No office in Ogden issues apostilles. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor does, from Suite 220 of the Utah State Capitol at 350 North State Street in Salt Lake City.
By mail, the state fee is $5 per document and the office quotes 1 to 3 business days after it receives the request, with transit extra. It warns that USPS deliveries are slowed by state mail screening. In-person service is by appointment at $20 per document. Online ordering is also offered, although digital apostilles are not available for birth and death records issued by the state vital records office.
A Weber County marriage license or a Utah birth certificate can go to the Lieutenant Governor as an original public document. A translation must be notarized first, and for a Utah apostille we hire a notary commissioned in Utah to notarize the translator’s statement, because the office does not accept out-of-state notarizations. The office says it does not translate documents or require English translations.
Courts, USCIS and languages in Ogden
The state courthouse in Ogden is at 2525 Grant Avenue. Utah’s court interpreter program classifies interpreters as certified, approved, registered or conditionally approved, and the court arranges one for hearings when needed. Ask the clerk about translated exhibits.
USCIS filings follow 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): a full English translation, certified by the translator as complete and accurate, with a statement that the translator is competent to translate.
According to Census Reporter’s ACS 2024 profile, Ogden has 88,661 residents and 13% were born in another country. Our translators work in 100 languages. The most requested are Spanish, Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic and Czech. Ask about others. Phone (971) 514-3743, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Driver license and notary rules that affect translations
If the translation is for a Utah driver license or ID card, note that the Driver License Division wants foreign documents translated to English by a certified translator. It refuses extract translations, expects you to present the foreign document together with the translation, and keeps an Approved Document Translator List that you should consult before ordering.
Utah law also limits notaries. Utah Code 46-1-11 says a non-attorney notary may not give advice about legal documents or proceedings, immigration included, and may not use a literal translation of ‘Notary Public’ that suggests attorney status. A notarized translation therefore carries a verified signature, not a legal opinion or a check of the translation itself.
