Apostille Service in Amarillo, Texas
Apostille Request Form
Amarillo is the Potter County seat, but much of the city’s southern half lies in Randall County. That split decides which courthouse holds your records, and it is the first thing to sort out before an Amarillo document can be apostilled for use abroad.
Apostille Authentications prepares Panhandle documents and submits them to the Texas Secretary of State for an apostille. Amarillo clients send their papers to us by mail or courier. We are based at our Texas office in Houston, 6124 Hwy 6 N, Houston, TX 77084, and we file in Austin on your behalf.
Which County Holds Your Amarillo Record
The City of Amarillo runs its own vital statistics office, which helps a great deal: one counter covers most births and deaths in the city regardless of the county line. Marriage and court records, however, stay with the county where they were filed.

The city’s records for Amarillo and Potter County go back to 1931, with limited entries from as early as 1908. For Randall County, the city holds only events inside the city limits. Its death records likewise cover only deaths within Amarillo and Potter County.
Diplomas From West Texas A&M, Amarillo College and TTUHSC
The Panhandle’s colleges supply a large share of our Amarillo requests. A 2024 HUD market profile names Amarillo College, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Amarillo and West Texas A&M University as major institutions in the metro area. WTAMU is headquartered in nearby Canyon and also has a downtown Amarillo building.
- WTAMU graduates often need apostilled degrees for teaching posts or graduate study in another country.
- Amarillo College students may need an associate degree or certificate recognized by a foreign employer.
- TTUHSC Amarillo graduates in pharmacy, medicine and health professions may need diplomas and transcripts for licensing abroad.
In each case the school’s records office should provide a notarized duplicate, notarized transcript or notarized registrar’s letter. The apostille then certifies the Texas notary, which is why the notarial wording, seal and commission date all have to be in order.
Pantex, Tyson and Health Care Employers
HUD’s 2024 profile lists Tyson Foods, the Pantex Plant (operated by Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC) and BSA Health System as the area’s largest employers. Pantex sits near east Amarillo and is described as the nation’s only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility.
Workers at large employers like these, and their families, ask us to apostille documents such as:
- Marriage and birth certificates for a spouse’s visa or a child’s foreign citizenship application
- Professional license verifications for nurses and other clinicians relocating abroad
- Powers of attorney so relatives overseas can handle an estate or property sale
- Notarized employment letters supporting a residency application
Anything privately written must be signed before a Texas notary first. Austin authenticates the notary’s signature, not the facts stated in the letter.
Treaty Countries, Embassy Countries and Federal Records
An apostille is recognized only by countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention, which includes Mexico, most of Europe and Canada (since January 2024). Documents for non-members such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar or Kuwait follow a different route called embassy legalization. Our country list shows where each rule applies.
Federal documents are outside Texas’s authority. An FBI background check, for example, is apostilled by the U.S. Department of State; our FBI apostille page explains the process.
A Pre-Mailing Checklist for Panhandle Clients
Shipping documents from the Panhandle and having them come back unusable costs time. Before you send anything, run through these points:
- Original, not a copy. Vital records must be certified copies with the registrar’s signature and seal. A photocopy, even a notarized one, will not be apostilled.
- Right county. Check whether the event was filed in Potter or Randall County, especially for marriages and divorces near the county line.
- Complete notarization. For letters, affidavits and school records, the Texas notary’s stamp, signature and commission expiration must all be legible.
- Destination confirmed. Know the exact country so the correct route (apostille or legalization) is used.
- Translation plans. If the receiving office needs another language, ask whether translation should happen before or after the apostille.
Fees and Timing in Austin
All Texas apostilles come from the Authentications Unit of the Texas Secretary of State at 400 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701, using Form 2102. The state charges $15 per document. If the request arrives by mail, the state says it may take up to two weeks from receipt. Counter visits are processed the same day, with walk-ins on Mondays and Fridays and appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Austin is a long drive from the Panhandle, which is why most Amarillo clients mail their documents instead. Our charge is $195 per document, plus the $15 state fee. We do not quote our own turnaround times. Review the pricing page or our Texas apostille guide for more.
Amarillo Apostille FAQ
I was born in south Amarillo, which is in Randall County. Can the city office still help?
Yes, if the birth occurred inside Amarillo city limits. The City of Amarillo Office of Vital Statistics holds Randall County records only for areas within the city. For a Randall County birth outside city limits, order from the Randall County Clerk in Canyon or from Texas Vital Statistics.
Is the abstract birth certificate from the Amarillo office good enough for an apostille?
Ask the receiving country first. The city can print certified abstracts for births anywhere in Texas from 1926 on, but it warns they may not be accepted for passports, and many foreign offices also prefer the full long-form certificate.
My WTAMU diploma was issued in Canyon. Does that change anything?
No. Canyon and Amarillo are both in Texas, so the Texas Secretary of State issues the apostille either way. What matters is that the university provides a properly notarized copy or registrar letter.
Which District Clerk has my divorce decree, Potter or Randall?
The one for the county where the case was filed. Potter County’s District Clerk is at 350 SE 6th Ave. in Amarillo, and Randall County’s district courts are at the Justice Center in Canyon.
Can you apostille a document for Kuwait?
Not with an apostille alone. Kuwait is outside the Apostille Convention, so after the state certifies the document it must be legalized through the embassy. We can explain the steps when you order.
