Language in North Las Vegas
Census Bureau QuickFacts reports that 37.9 percent of North Las Vegas residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home (2020 to 2024), compared with 29.5 percent for Nevada as a whole. A Secretary of State office inside the city
A State of Nevada document lists the Secretary of State’s southern office at 2250 Las Vegas Blvd North, Suite 400, North Las Vegas, NV 89030. The Secretary of State is the only authority that issues Nevada apostilles, and its main office is at 101 N. Carson Street, Suite 3, Carson City, NV 89701.
Do not assume the North Las Vegas office will take an apostille request over the counter. Look at the Secretary of State’s apostille submission instructions first to see where requests are accepted, whether an appointment is needed and which form to bring.
The fee is fixed by NRS 240.1657 at $20 per authentication. The statute requires a signed statement, under penalty of perjury, that the document will not be used to harass a person or for a fraudulent or unlawful purpose, and it excludes documents not notarized under Nevada notary law.
When a translation has to be notarized so it can receive a Nevada apostille, we hire a notary commissioned in Nevada to notarize the translator’s statement. We also help prepare the apostille request.
North Las Vegas Justice Court: bring your own interpreter in civil cases
North Las Vegas Justice Court is at 2428 N. Martin L. King Blvd, Building A, North Las Vegas, NV 89032, phone (702) 455-7801. It is open Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed Fridays.
The court’s interpreter page draws a line by case type. In criminal and traffic cases an interpreter is provided. In civil, small claims and landlord-tenant cases you must bring your own interpreter to the clerk’s office or to your hearing, because the court cannot guarantee one. The page gives the District Court Interpreter’s Office number, (702) 455-4279.
That policy covers spoken interpreting. If you plan to hand the court a lease, receipt or message written in another language, ask the clerk in advance what kind of English translation and certification the judge will accept.

Spanish-language advertising and 'notarios'
Nevada law speaks directly to notary advertising in other languages. Under NRS 240.085, a notary who is not an attorney and advertises in a language other than English must include a notice in that language saying he or she is not an attorney in Nevada, is not licensed to give legal advice and may not accept fees for legal advice. The terms ‘notario’, ‘notario publico’ and ‘licenciado’ are off limits in such advertising.
NRS Chapter 240A separately requires document preparation services to register with the Secretary of State and post a bond, and bars them from giving legal advice. A translation company translates what your document says. It cannot tell you which form to file.
USCIS and DMV translations
- USCIS. The translator must certify the English translation as complete and accurate and certify competence to translate, per 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). Our certificate of accuracy includes both.
- Nevada DMV. Foreign-language documents must be translated by a DMV-approved translator, with the translator’s DMV number on the translation. A foreign license can be one of two documents toward a Driver Authorization Card.
