Expedited Mississippi FBI Apostille Services
You have a visa or residency file that calls for an apostilled FBI background check, and you are in Mississippi. The state does not issue that apostille. It comes from the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC. Apostille Authentications handles the federal step for you: email us the FBI result, we have it hand-carried in Washington, and the apostilled check is back in Mississippi by FedEx in 10 business days.

Why Jackson cannot apostille your FBI background check
In Mississippi, apostilles are handled by the Secretary of State’s office at 660 North Street in Jackson. Its instructions cover two kinds of paper: documents notarized by a Mississippi notary public, and documents bearing the signature of a Mississippi public official.
An FBI Identity History Summary is neither. It is signed by a federal official, so the competent office is the U.S. Department of State Office of Authentications in Washington, DC.
Two mistakes to avoid in Mississippi:
- Do not ask a notary to certify a copy of the FBI report. The Secretary of State’s apostille instructions say a notary who is not an employee of the issuing government agency shall neither certify nor authenticate a copy of any official government document. The notarized-copy shortcut some people try is closed in Mississippi, and it would not produce a federal apostille in any case.
- A state background check is a different document. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety offers a name-based background check that individuals can request on themselves. It is issued by a state agency, not by the FBI. When a consulate writes FBI, federal or national on its checklist, it expects the FBI Identity History Summary.

How it works from Mississippi
- Local fingerprinting. Have an ink FD-1164 card taken at a police department, sheriff’s office or fingerprinting vendor. Or sign up on the FBI’s eDO site and submit prints electronically at a participating U.S. Post Office. Either way you request the FBI Identity History Summary and pay the FBI’s $18 fee.
- FBI result. The FBI issues a PDF with its watermark and a division official’s signature.
- Email to us. Send that PDF and your passport photo page. We check the name and date of birth on one against the other before we file.
- Washington, DC. We fill in Form DS-4194 and our Herndon, Virginia office takes the request by hand to the Department of State Office of Authentications. FBI results skip DOJ certification and go directly to the Department of State.
- Return. FedEx to your Mississippi address, or FedEx or DHL to wherever you are overseas.
We do not have an office in Mississippi and do not offer fingerprinting there. Our service begins with your FBI PDF.

Where we serve Mississippi clients
Statewide, by email and FedEx. That includes Jackson and nearby Madison and Brandon, the Gulf Coast cities of Gulfport and Biloxi, Southaven and Olive Branch in DeSoto County, Hattiesburg, Tupelo, and the university towns of Oxford and Starkville. A client in the Delta has the same 10 business days as a client a mile from the Capitol.
Why Mississippians need an apostilled FBI check
Common destinations for our Mississippi clients include Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica for retirement and residency, and Spain for study and long-stay visas. South Korea and Japan require an apostilled FBI check for teaching and work visas. Colombia, Brazil and the Philippines come up in marriage and family residency cases, and Italy for citizenship by descent.
Several of these countries will ask for a Spanish or other translation with the apostille. Certified translation can be included in your order. Because many authorities want an FBI check dated within 3 to 6 months, get fingerprinted close to your filing date.

FAQ
Can the Mississippi Secretary of State apostille an FBI background check?
No. The Secretary of State in Jackson apostilles documents notarized by a Mississippi notary or signed by a Mississippi public official. An FBI background check is signed by a federal official and is apostilled by the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC.
How fast is an expedited FBI apostille in Mississippi?
10 business days after we receive your FBI result. The standard service runs 7–8 weeks.
Can a Mississippi notary certify a copy of my FBI report so Jackson can apostille it?
No. The Secretary of State’s instructions bar a notary who is not employed by the issuing agency from certifying a copy of an official government document. The FBI report needs a federal apostille from the Department of State.
I live in Gulfport or Southaven. Do I need to go to Jackson?
No. Jackson has no role in an FBI apostille, and we have no Mississippi office. The whole order is handled by email and FedEx.
What should I send with my FBI PDF?
The photo page of your passport, your destination country and your deadline. We compare the name and date of birth before filing so a mismatch is caught early.
