Frequently Asked Questions

An apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature and seal on a public document so it’s recognized in another country. It’s issued under the 1961 Hague Convention and confirms the document’s origin not its contents.

Regular processing depends on the U.S. Department of State’s or your state’s current workload, and can take several weeks. Expedited processing significantly shortens that timeline. Contact us for our current estimated turnaround.

Pricing depends on the document type and whether you need regular or expedited processing. See our Pricing page for FBI, state, and federal apostille rates, or request a free quote.

Notarization verifies a signature was made willingly and knowingly in front of a notary. An apostille goes a step further, certifying that the notary (or official who signed the document) is legitimate, so the document is accepted abroad. Most documents must be notarized before they can be apostilled.

Any country that’s a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. If your destination country isn’t a member, your document needs “legalization” through its embassy instead of an apostille. Let us know your destination country and we’ll confirm which process applies.

Common examples: birth, marriage, and divorce certificates; FBI background checks; powers of attorney; diplomas and transcripts; corporate documents; and single-status letters. If you’re not sure your document qualifies, ask us before ordering.
