What the Census shows
According to Census Bureau QuickFacts for Fort Lauderdale city, 30.1% of residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home and 27.0% of residents are foreign born (2020 to 2024 American Community Survey). The July 1, 2025 population estimate is 188,677.
Local agencies publish in several languages. The Broward Clerk offers its Family Law Handbook for marriage license applicants in English, Spanish and Creole, and Broward County Public Schools provides registration materials in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Portuguese.
Broward courts: interpreters are not translators
The Seventeenth Judicial Circuit’s Court Interpreters office provides Spanish and Haitian Creole interpreters in house. Other languages need a request at least 7 days in advance through the court’s online form. Interpreters are provided in circuit and county criminal, juvenile delinquency and dependency, paternity, domestic violence injunction, mental health and incapacity proceedings, and in other cases where the court finds one necessary. The office phone is 954-831-7290.
That page covers spoken and sign language interpreting only. It does not offer written translation of a party’s documents, so foreign-language exhibits are normally translated before filing. Ask the court or your lawyer what format the judge expects.
USCIS and college requirements
- USCIS. 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) requires a full English translation of any foreign-language document, certified by the translator as complete and accurate, together with the translator’s certification of competence in both languages. Our certificate addresses each element. Acceptance is up to USCIS.
- Broward College. The college’s foreign university transcripts page asks for an American Translators Association (ATA) certified English translation when official documents are not in English, and a NACES member evaluation for bachelor’s applicants and transfer credit. Confirm with the college that the translation you order meets its wording before you pay for one.

Notarized translator statements
Some recipients ask for the translator’s signature on the certificate of accuracy to be notarized. We can arrange that, and when a Florida notarization is required we hire a Florida notary to complete it. The Florida Department of State notes that the person translating a document cannot be the person who notarizes it, and that it does not provide translations itself. If your translation has to travel with an apostilled Florida record, tell us the destination country and we will help you plan the steps.
