Birth and death certificates come from the state

Idaho county offices do not issue birth certificates. Certified copies come from the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics, PO Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0036, phone 208-334-5980. The bureau has no walk-in counter, so you order online through VitalChek or by mail.

A certified birth certificate costs $16. The bureau lists standard processing at 3 to 5 weeks and rush service at 2 to 3 weeks, not counting mailing time. If you need an Idaho record translated for use abroad, order the certified copy first and send us a scan when it arrives.

Courts, interpreters and immigration filings

State cases for Nampa residents are handled through the Canyon County court in Caldwell. The Idaho courts provide interpreters for hearings, and Canyon County asks you to submit its Interpreter Request form ahead of time. That program covers spoken interpreting in court. The Idaho Supreme Court’s interpreter credentialing tests interpreting, not written translation, so a translated exhibit or record is something you arrange yourself.

For federal cases, Canyon County is in the Southern Division of the District of Idaho, which sits at 550 W. Fort Street, Boise, ID 83724.

For immigration filings, the federal rule at 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) requires any foreign-language document sent to USCIS to come with a full English translation that the translator certifies as complete and accurate, along with a statement that the translator is competent to translate into English. Our certificate of accuracy is written to those two points. No translation company can guarantee how an agency will rule on a filing.

Transcripts for Nampa colleges

  • College of Western Idaho. CWI, at 5500 E. Opportunity Dr., Nampa, states that international applicants’ official high school transcripts must be translated by a translation service into English or Spanish. College credit from abroad needs an evaluation from an approved evaluation service.
  • Northwest Nazarene University. NNU says international students may be asked to have transcripts evaluated by a member of NACES, and it recommends World Education Services. Check the document rules the evaluator sets for your country before ordering a translation.

Getting an Idaho apostille from Nampa

Apostilles for Idaho documents are issued by the Idaho Secretary of State in Boise. The fee is $10.00 per document. The office accepts a certified copy or an original document notarized by an Idaho notary public, and school documents must be signed by a school official and notarized.

You can mail the request form, document and payment to Secretary of State’s Office, Attn: Notary Department, PO Box 83720, Boise ID 83720-0080. Requests are processed daily as received and returned by first-class mail unless you enclose a prepaid overnight airbill. The counter at 450 N 4th Street, Boise ID 83702 handles apostilles by appointment only, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

One point matters if a translation is involved. Idaho does not apostille documents notarized in another state. For that reason we hire an Idaho notary to notarize the translator’s statement when it needs an Idaho apostille. We can help you work out which document needs the apostille; ask the authority abroad what it expects.
