Apostille Service in Grand Prairie, Texas

Apostille Request Form

Grand Prairie stretches between Dallas and Fort Worth, with its northern edge about five to ten minutes south of DFW International Airport. It is also one of the few Texas cities that crosses three counties: Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis, plus a sliver of Johnson County. For anyone who needs a document apostilled, that geography matters, because the county where a record was filed decides which clerk can certify it.

Apostille Authentications sorts that out with you and then files the request with the Texas Secretary of State. We serve Grand Prairie by mail and courier from our Texas office in Houston.

Aerospace and Industrial Employers With Overseas Ties

Aviation has shaped Grand Prairie since a North American Aviation plant opened there in 1941. Today the city lists Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control headquarters, with about 5,000 jobs, as its largest employer, followed by Grand Prairie ISD and Poly-America. Airbus Helicopters, Inc. is also headquartered in the city, and much of the roughly 80-million-square-foot Great Southwest Industrial District lies within its limits.

Defense contractors, aircraft suppliers and manufacturers deal with foreign customers, partners and regulators. Documents we see from this kind of business include:

  • Notarized powers of attorney authorizing agents to sign contracts or register products in another country
  • Certificates of good standing and formation documents for a foreign branch or joint venture
  • Notarized declarations supporting distribution or service agreements
  • Degree and license records for engineers and technicians posted to customer sites abroad

Business filings issued by the Texas Secretary of State can be apostilled directly; privately signed papers need a Texas notary first. Our apostille and authentication service page explains the difference.

Finding the Right County Office for a Grand Prairie Record

Use the county where the birth, marriage or court case was recorded, which may not be the county you live in now.

Long-Form Birth Certificates and Grand Prairie's 1996 Cutoff

Many foreign agencies insist on the long-form birth certificate, which is a copy of the full record, rather than the short abstract version. Dallas County publishes two details that affect Grand Prairie families:

  • The County Clerk can issue long forms for Grand Prairie births from 1996 to the present.
  • For births at a list of Dallas hospitals, including Parkland Memorial, Baylor Dallas and Medical City Dallas, the county does not have the long form and points people to the state.

In either case, Texas Vital Statistics at DSHS is the fallback. Mark “Apostille” as the purpose so the certificate arrives in a form the Secretary of State will accept. Also check the age of any certified copy you already own: Texas guidance says recordable documents should be less than five years old.

Personal Paperwork for Grand Prairie Households

Not every request comes from a defense contractor. In 2020, about 7.5 percent of Grand Prairie residents identified as Asian, and the city’s mix of backgrounds means many households have reasons to send records overseas. Typical family requests include:

  • A birth certificate so a child can be added to a parent’s foreign passport or citizenship register
  • A marriage record to update a spouse’s status with a government abroad
  • A death certificate for an inheritance or bank matter in another country
  • A notarized affidavit or consent letter for a minor traveling with one parent
  • Adoption decrees from a district court, needed by some foreign registries

Each of these starts with a certified copy from the correct county, so the three-county question above applies to family documents just as much as to business ones. If you were married in Arlington but live in Grand Prairie now, for example, the Tarrant County Clerk is the office to contact.

School and College Records

Grand Prairie ISD covers most of the Dallas County side, while Arlington, Mansfield, Cedar Hill, Irving and Midlothian ISDs serve other parts of the city. For community college, residents are zoned to Dallas College, Tarrant County College or Navarro College depending on their county.

High school diplomas, college transcripts and degrees all need the same preparation: an official of the school signs a statement about the record before a notary, and Texas then apostilles the notary’s signature. Ask the registrar for that service when you order your copy.

Choosing the Certificate, Paying Fees and Sending Documents

  • Hague members accept the Texas apostille. Canada has been a member since January 2024.
  • Non-members such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait require embassy legalization, which takes more steps.
  • Federal documents, including FBI background checks, are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, not by Texas. See our FBI apostille service.

Grand Prairie Apostille FAQ

Which county clerk has my Grand Prairie birth certificate?

It depends on where in Grand Prairie the birth was recorded. Most of the city is in Dallas County, but parts are in Tarrant and Ellis counties. If you are not sure, Texas Vital Statistics can issue the certificate for any Texas county; list Apostille as the reason.

Can the Dallas County Clerk issue a long-form certificate for a Grand Prairie birth?

Dallas County lists Grand Prairie long forms as available for 1996 to the present. For earlier births, or births at certain Dallas hospitals the county lists, it refers people to the state Vital Statistics office.

Is there a Tarrant County Clerk office close to Grand Prairie?

The Tarrant County Clerk lists a vital records location at the Arlington Subcourthouse, 700 E. Abram St. The county gives 817-884-1550 as the phone number for its vital records locations.

Our aerospace company needs a power of attorney apostilled for a foreign partner. Is that possible?

Yes. A company officer signs the document in front of a Texas notary, and the Secretary of State then authenticates the notary’s signature. Tell us the destination country first, because some countries require embassy legalization instead.

Do you have a Grand Prairie location?

No. Grand Prairie clients send documents by mail or courier to our Texas office at 6124 Hwy 6 N in Houston, and we file them with the Secretary of State.
