Two ways to legalize a document for Vietnam and we handle both
Whether you’re sending a diploma for a work permit, a birth certificate for family registration, or a corporate document for a new business license, U.S. documents used in Vietnam have to pass through an official chain of verification before Vietnamese authorities will accept them.
Until now, that chain ended at the Vietnamese Embassy or a Vietnamese Consulate General in the U.S. Starting September 11, 2026, most of that final step is replaced by a single apostille — issued right here in the United States, with no embassy visit required. We track the exact requirement for your document type, your state, and your submission date so nothing gets rejected for being on the wrong side of the transition.
The current process

Documents certified before Sept 11, 2026
The traditional multi-step chain, ending with the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C. or a Vietnamese Consulate General.
- Notarization by a licensed notary public (for academic, business, and legal documents)
- Certification by the Secretary of State where the document was issued
- Authentication by the U.S. Department of State (required for federal documents, and for state documents used with the embassy)
- Legalization stamp from the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate General
Documents certified after Sept 11, 2026
One certificate replaces the embassy step entirely for most public documents.

Where required, we coordinate notarization and submit to the relevant Secretary of State for certification handled locally or through our nationwide network if your document was issued outside Oregon or Washington.
Apostille or embassy legalization
We file with the U.S. Department of State for federal authentication, then route the document to either the apostille desk or the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate General, depending on your certification date.
Delivered back to you
Your finished, legalization-ready document ships securely via FedEx or USPS or directly to a recipient in Vietnam if you need it delivered internationally.

It depends on your certification date, not your document date. Anything we certify on or after September 11, 2026 generally only needs an apostille. Anything certified earlier follows the existing embassy legalization chain. We confirm this for you at intake.
Yes, for public documents originating in the United States, since neither country has objected to the other’s participation in the Convention. Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has designated its Consular Department and provincial foreign affairs offices as the authorities that verify incoming apostilles.
No problem, we’ll simply finish that order under the process that was in place when it was certified. You don’t need to restart anything.
Most Vietnamese authorities require a certified translation alongside the legalized or apostilled document. We offer this as an add-on and can bundle it into your order.
