Apostille Service in Carrollton, Texas
Apostille Request Form
Few Texas cities make document requests as confusing as Carrollton. The city sits on the meeting point of Dallas, Denton and Collin counties, so two neighbors on opposite sides of a street can have their marriage licenses recorded by different county clerks. Carrollton is also home to Koreatown at Old Denton Road and the President George Bush Turnpike, often described as the largest Korean community in Texas and the southern United States.
Apostille Authentications sorts out the county question, reviews your paperwork and submits it to the Texas Secretary of State. We serve Carrollton by mail and courier only; there is no Apostille Authentications office in the city.
Start Here: Which of the Three Counties?
The rule is simple even if the map is not. A certified record comes from the county where the event was filed, regardless of where you live now. Use this table to find the right office.
| County | Birth, death and marriage records | Divorce decrees and court orders |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas (southern Carrollton) | Dallas County Clerk, Records Building, 500 Elm Street, Suite 2100, Dallas; (214) 653-7099 | Dallas County District Clerk, 600 Commerce Street, Dallas; (214) 653-7301 |
| Denton (northern Carrollton) | Denton County Clerk, Carrollton Office, Sandy Jacobs Government Center, 1029 West Rosemeade Parkway, Carrollton; vital records line (972) 434-8848 | Denton County District Clerk, 1450 E. McKinney Street, Denton; (972) 434-8822 |
| Collin (small portion) | Collin County Clerk, 2300 Bloomdale Road, McKinney; (972) 548-4185, or the Plano satellite, (972) 881-3025 | Collin County District Clerk, 2100 Bloomdale Road, McKinney; (972) 548-4320 |
Two details are easy to miss. First, Denton County says its Carrollton office does not issue birth or death records between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Second, the county notes that births and deaths inside Carrollton city limits are outside what its clerk can issue. For those, Texas Vital Statistics is a dependable source; select Apostille as the reason on the order. See Denton County’s birth and death certificate page for current rules.
Documents Headed to South Korea
South Korea is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so a Texas apostille is accepted there without embassy legalization. Carrollton’s Korean American families most often ask us about:
- Family relationship reporting: U.S. birth, marriage or divorce records used to update a Korean family register.
- Nationality matters: documents supporting retention or renunciation of Korean nationality.
- Property and inheritance: notarized powers of attorney so a relative in Korea can sell real estate or close accounts.
- Education and teaching: degrees and background checks for positions in Korea.
Korean offices frequently want a Korean translation too. We can coordinate that through our document translation services. If a Korean employer asks for an FBI check, remember that federal records are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State, which our FBI apostille service handles.
Business Records for Carrollton Employers
Carrollton’s larger employers have included Cencora, Halliburton, Thomson Reuters, Western Extrusions, Securus Technologies and Baylor Scott & White, and the city is headquarters to FASTSIGNS, G6 Hospitality (Motel 6) and Securus. Franchisors and distributors here often need documents accepted overseas, such as:
- Franchise disclosure documents or agreements signed before a notary for a foreign franchisee.
- Texas certificates of fact proving good standing.
- Powers of attorney for trademark registration abroad.
- Letters confirming employment for staff on international assignment.
The Secretary of State apostilles Texas-notarized business records and its own certified filings. Out-of-state corporate documents must be apostilled in the state that issued them.
When a single transaction involves several papers, such as a resolution, a power of attorney and a certificate of fact, send them together. Each one receives its own apostille and is billed per document, but reviewing them as a set helps make sure names, titles and dates match across the file a foreign registry will examine.
School and College Records
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD covers most of the city, with Lewisville, Plano, Coppell and Dallas ISDs serving smaller areas. Nearby colleges include Dallas College’s Brookhaven campus in neighboring Farmers Branch, Collin College for the Collin County portion, and North Central Texas College for much of Denton County.
To apostille a high school diploma or college transcript, start by requesting a notarized copy or a notarized registrar’s letter from the school. The Secretary of State authenticates the notary, so an un-notarized transcript will be returned unprocessed.
Mistakes That Send Carrollton Files Back
Most returned requests we see from this part of North Texas fall into a few patterns. Avoiding them saves weeks.
- Ordering from the wrong county. A Denton County clerk cannot certify a marriage recorded in Dallas County, and vice versa. Check the original document for the issuing county before ordering.
- Sending a decorative or hospital certificate. Only a certified copy issued by a county clerk, local registrar or Texas Vital Statistics can be apostilled.
- Using an old certified copy. Texas asks that recordable documents be less than five years old when they are submitted.
- Mixing states. A California birth certificate or a Delaware corporate filing must be apostilled by that state, even if you now live in Carrollton.
- Skipping the notary. Translations, affidavits, transcripts and copies of passports all need a valid Texas notarization first.
We review every document against these points before it goes to Austin, and we will tell you if something needs to be replaced.
Cost and Timing in Plain Terms
- Texas state fee: $15 per document, paid to the Secretary of State.
- Our fee: $195 per document, plus that state fee.
- Where it is issued: Authentications Unit, Texas Secretary of State, 400 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701.
- State timing: up to two weeks after a mailed request arrives. The Austin counter offers same-day service, walk-in on Mondays and Fridays and by appointment Tuesday through Thursday.
- Paperwork: state Form 2102 goes with every request; we complete it.
We do not set or guarantee a turnaround of our own. For countries outside the convention, including the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, embassy legalization replaces the apostille. Full fee details are on our pricing page.
Carrollton Questions, Answered
Does Denton County have a clerk office in Carrollton?
Yes. Denton County’s Carrollton office is at the Sandy Jacobs Government Center, 1029 West Rosemeade Parkway. It handles vital records for Denton County events, with a midday break from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for birth and death records.
Will South Korea accept a Texas apostille?
Yes. South Korea is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille from the Texas Secretary of State is the final U.S. step. A Korean translation may still be required.
I was married in Carrollton but am not sure which county issued the license. What should I do?
Look at the license or certificate itself; it names the issuing county. If you no longer have it, contact the Dallas, Denton or Collin County Clerk to search their records.
Can you apostille a Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD diploma?
Yes, after it is properly notarized. Ask the district for a notarized copy or verification letter, then send it to us for submission.
Do I need to visit Austin myself?
No. We file with the Texas Secretary of State for you by mail or courier and return the apostilled documents.
