Apostille Service in Victoria, Texas
Apostille Request Form
Victoria is the county seat of Victoria County and an anchor city for the surrounding region: Victoria College alone serves all or part of seven counties. Its university and community college serve students from across that area, and its plastics, chemical and manufacturing plants employ people with ties to many countries.
If you live in Victoria and need a Texas document recognized abroad, it will usually need an apostille from the Texas Secretary of State. Apostille Authentications prepares those documents and files them in Austin for you. We do not have a Victoria office; clients send their records by mail or courier and receive them back the same way.
Victoria Birth and Death Certificates Come From the City
In Victoria, certified birth and death certificates are issued by the City of Victoria, not the County Clerk. The state’s directory of local registrars lists the city for Texas birth records and local death records. Call the city office at 361-485-3040 for its location and hours.
Key points from the city’s instructions:
- A birth certificate costs $23, whether the birth happened in Victoria or elsewhere in Texas.
- A death certificate costs $21 for the first copy and $4 for each additional copy in the same transaction, for deaths in Victoria County.
- Mailed applications must be notarized and paid by check or money order to the City of Victoria.
- Applications sent by email or fax are not accepted.
You can also order from Texas Vital Statistics (DSHS). If you go that route, enter “Apostille” as the reason for the request so the signature on the certificate can be authenticated.
Marriage and Court Records at the Victoria County Courthouse
Marriage records and divorce decrees come from two county offices on North Bridge Street.
| Office | Records | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Victoria County Clerk | Marriage licenses and certified marriage records | 115 N. Bridge St., Room 103, Victoria, TX 77901 · (361) 575-1478 |
| Victoria County District Clerk | Divorce decrees, custody orders, civil judgments | Victoria County Courthouse, 101 N. Bridge St. · (361) 575-0581 |
County Clerk details come from the county clerk directory listing, and District Clerk details come from the Texas county directory, which lists 101 N. Bridge as the general county address. Call to confirm the room number before ordering in person.
Ask for a certified copy bearing the clerk’s signature and seal. An attorney’s file copy or a printout from an online record search will be rejected.
Graduates of Texas A&M–Victoria and Victoria College
Victoria’s four-year university is now Texas A&M University–Victoria, part of the Texas A&M University System. It began in 1971 as the University of Houston–Victoria Center, so many alumni hold diplomas under the University of Houston–Victoria name. Victoria College, founded in 1925 as Victoria Junior College, serves Calhoun, DeWitt, Gonzales, Lavaca and Victoria counties along with parts of Jackson and Refugio counties.
Because diplomas and transcripts are not public records, they need notarization before Texas will apostille them:
- Request an official transcript or degree verification letter from the current registrar.
- Have the registrar’s statement, or a notarized copy of your diploma, completed by a Texas notary.
- Send the notarized document to us for review and filing.
If your diploma shows the older university name, ask the registrar how it verifies those records today. The apostille certifies the notary’s signature, so the name on the diploma does not change the process.
Students applying abroad may also need a translation, which our translation service can provide.
Plant and Manufacturing Employers in the Victoria Area
Petrochemicals and manufacturing drive much of Victoria’s economy. Major employers in the area include Formosa Plastics, Inteplast Group, Dow, Invista, Caterpillar and Alcoa. The shallow-draft Port of Victoria serves local industry, and the deep-water Port of Port Lavaca–Point Comfort is nearby.
Employees of global companies transfer in both directions. Workers heading abroad often need apostilled birth and marriage certificates for family visas, while transferees from overseas may need Texas documents, such as a marriage record from a Victoria wedding, authenticated for their home country.
Companies may need certificates of formation, notarized board resolutions or powers of attorney authenticated for foreign business registrations. Our apostille and authentication service covers those business documents as well.
Ancestry and Citizenship Claims Using Victoria Records
Some of the Victoria requests we see have nothing to do with jobs or school. Families applying for citizenship by descent, or settling an estate in another country, often need a chain of records: a grandparent’s birth certificate, a parent’s marriage certificate and sometimes a death certificate.
Each link in that chain must be a separate certified copy, and each one gets its own apostille. A few practical suggestions:
- Order births and deaths from the city or DSHS, and marriages from the County Clerk, all at the same time so the copies are issued close together.
- Ask the foreign consulate whether it wants long-form birth certificates showing parents’ names.
- Keep names consistent across the set; if a surname was spelled differently decades ago, ask the consulate how it handles the variation before you apostille anything.
Preparing a Victoria Document for the State, and What It Costs
Before you mail anything, run through this short checklist:
- Destination confirmed? Apostilles are accepted only in Hague Convention countries. The UAE, Qatar and Kuwait require embassy legalization instead.
- Right kind of copy? Vital records and court records must be certified by the issuing office.
- Notary block complete? School records and affidavits need a full Texas notarial certificate.
- Federal document? FBI background checks go to the U.S. Department of State, not to Texas.
- Names match? Spelling differences between your passport and your certificate should be resolved first.
Not sure about the destination? Check our country reference.
