Apostille Service in Conroe, Texas

Apostille Request Form

Conroe has an advantage many Texas cities lack: as the seat of Montgomery County, it is where the county’s records are kept. If you were born, married or divorced anywhere in Montgomery County, the certified copy you need for an overseas application most likely comes from an office within a few blocks of downtown Conroe.

Getting that copy is only half the task, though. A foreign government will usually want an apostille from the Texas Secretary of State attached to it. Apostille Authentications prepares and submits those requests for Conroe clients by mail and courier. We do not have a Conroe office; you send us the certified document and we take care of the Austin filing.

The county clerk also accepts orders through its online vital records portal, which requires an uploaded ID. According to that portal, online birth certificates are available only for people born in Texas, death records only for deaths that occurred in Montgomery County, and marriage copies only for licenses bought from Montgomery County. If you choose pickup, the portal asks you to wait for its issued notice before coming in with your ID.

Office details change from time to time, so call ahead before visiting either clerk.

Oilfield Roots and Today's Conroe Employers

Conroe’s modern growth traces back to 1931, when George W. Strake discovered the Conroe Oil Field. The energy connection has not gone away. A 2025 city employer report lists MS Directional and National Oilwell Varco among Conroe’s major employers, alongside Conroe ISD, Montgomery County, HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe, the City of Conroe and Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare.

Each of these creates its own kind of international paperwork:

  • Oilfield and drilling technicians heading to rigs overseas may need apostilled diplomas, training certificates notarized by the employer, and marriage certificates for family visas.
  • Teachers taking jobs at international schools are often asked for an apostilled teaching certificate, degree and background check.
  • Nurses and allied health workers seeking licenses abroad commonly submit apostilled diplomas and transcripts.
  • Retirees buying property in Mexico or Europe sometimes need a notarized power of attorney with an apostille.

Getting School and College Records Ready

Conroe ISD covers almost all of the city, with small areas in Willis ISD and Montgomery ISD. Beyond high school, Lone Star College-Montgomery is the main college serving Conroe, Lone Star College also runs a Conroe Center, and the University of St. Thomas opened a Conroe campus in 2020.

The Secretary of State can only apostille a signature it can verify. For school records that usually means one of these:

  1. The registrar signs the transcript or a statement about the diploma in front of a Texas notary.
  2. The school provides a copy certified by an official whose signature is on file.

Ask the registrar for the notarized version up front; it saves a second trip. Records from out-of-state schools must be apostilled by that state.

Apostille or Embassy Legalization?

Before you mail anything, confirm what the destination country accepts. Hague Convention members accept the Texas apostille on its own. Countries outside the convention, such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait, require embassy legalization, a longer chain of authentication. Our country requirements page sorts this out, and our authentication services page covers the legalization path.

Federal records follow a separate route as well. An FBI background check, often needed for teaching and residency abroad, is apostilled by the US Department of State. Details are on our FBI apostille page.

Avoiding Common Problems With Montgomery County Papers

A few issues come up again and again with records from the Conroe area. Catching them early keeps your application on schedule and spares you a second visit to the clerk’s counter on West Davis or at the courthouse.

  • Ordering an abstract instead of a full certificate. Some foreign offices reject short-form birth records. If the destination wants the long form, say so when you order from the county or the state.
  • Sending a plain copy of a court decree. The District Clerk can certify a copy of your decree. Without that certification, the Secretary of State has no official signature to authenticate.
  • Notarizing your own document incorrectly. A notary must follow Texas rules, including a complete certificate with the notary’s seal and commission details. An incomplete notarial certificate is a common reason for rejection.
  • Assuming the county issues everything. Montgomery County’s online portal only issues death records for deaths in the county and marriage copies for licenses it sold. Events elsewhere must be requested from the county where they happened.
  • Forgetting the translation. Spanish-, French- or German-speaking countries frequently ask for a translation as well. Ask us about translation when you place your order.

Conroe Apostille FAQ

Can I pick up a Montgomery County birth certificate in Conroe and send it straight to you?

Yes. A certified copy from the County Clerk’s Vital Statistics office at 210 West Davis is acceptable for a Texas apostille. Keep it flat and unaltered, and mail it to us with the request form.

My divorce was finalized at the Montgomery County Courthouse. Who has the decree?

The Montgomery County District Clerk keeps district court records. Ask for a certified copy, since a plain copy cannot be apostilled.

I live in Conroe but was born in Houston. Which county do I contact?

Records stay where the event took place. For a Houston birth you would order from a Harris County or City of Houston vital records office, or from Texas Vital Statistics, not from Montgomery County.

Can a training certificate from my oilfield employer be apostilled?

Often yes, if a company officer signs it before a notary. The apostille confirms the notary’s authority, not the content of the certificate. Check with the receiving country whether it accepts that format.

Is there a Secretary of State office in Conroe?

No. The Authentications Unit operates in Austin. We are not located in Conroe either; we handle Conroe orders by mail and courier.
