Apostille Service in Cedar Hill, Texas

Apostille Request Form

Cedar Hill sits on the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake, next to the 1,826-acre Cedar Hill State Park, and anchors the Best Southwest group of cities along with DeSoto, Duncanville and Lancaster. Most of the city is in Dallas County, but a small southern section crosses into Ellis County. If you were married, divorced or had a child while living in that southern strip, your records may be in Waxahachie rather than downtown Dallas.

Apostille Authentications helps Cedar Hill residents and businesses get those records apostilled by the Texas Secretary of State. We work remotely, by mail and courier, and have no office in Cedar Hill. You send the documents; we review, file and return them.

The Ellis County Corner of Cedar Hill

The Ellis County Clerk keeps vital records for events recorded in that county, and its procedures differ a little from Dallas County’s:

  • Office: Ellis County Clerk, 109 S. Jackson Street, Waxahachie, TX 75165.
  • Vitals division phone: (972) 825-5070. Posted hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Online ordering: birth and death certificates can be requested online.
  • Coverage: Ellis County birth records go back to 1850. For a birth elsewhere in Texas, the clerk issues an abstract record. Death records are available only for deaths within Ellis County.

Because foreign offices often prefer a full long-form birth certificate, ask the receiving authority whether an abstract will be accepted. Divorce decrees from Ellis County courts come from the Ellis County District Clerk in Waxahachie. More details are on the Ellis County Clerk website.

Dallas County Records for Most of the City

For the Dallas County part of Cedar Hill, the closest county facility is the South Dallas Government Center, but the full range of certified copies comes from downtown.

Note that a marriage license is the document you apply for before the wedding. For an apostille, you need the certified copy of the recorded license after the ceremony.

Diplomas and Transcripts from Cedar Hill Schools

Cedar Hill ISD serves most of the city through Cedar Hill High School and Cedar Hill Collegiate High School, while some addresses fall in Duncanville ISD or Midlothian ISD. College-level records often come from Dallas College, whose Cedar Valley campus serves Lancaster and South Dallas, or from Navarro College, which serves the Ellis County portion.

None of these records is a public filing, so Texas needs a notary involved first. Typical options:

  • The registrar signs a letter verifying your diploma or enclosing your transcript, in front of a Texas notary.
  • A notary prepares a certified copy of a diploma, which state guidance allows when the document is not filed with a government agency.

Graduates applying to teach English abroad or to enroll in foreign universities are the most common users of this route.

Personal Paperwork We Often See from Best Southwest Families

Marriage abroad. A Cedar Hill resident marrying overseas is usually asked for a birth certificate and, if previously married, a certified divorce decree. Both need apostilles, and the decree has to come from the district clerk of the county that granted it.

Dual citizenship for children. Parents claiming a foreign nationality for a child generally start with the child’s apostilled birth certificate and their own apostilled marriage certificate.

Property and estates. When a relative abroad needs authority to sell land or settle an estate, a power of attorney signed before a Texas notary is apostilled and then sent overseas. Probated wills recorded with a Texas county can also be apostilled.

Age of the copy. Texas guidance says recordable documents should be less than five years old, so a certificate ordered years ago may need replacing before we file it.

Businesses in the Highway 67 Industrial District

Cedar Hill’s economic development office promotes an industrial district along U.S. Highway 67 with BNSF rail service, plus the Hillside Village retail center and a planned West Midtown business area. Companies there that sell to foreign buyers or open entities abroad may need apostilled certificates of fact from the Texas Secretary of State, notarized powers of attorney, or notarized declarations about products. If a document is going to the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait, plan on embassy legalization instead, because those countries do not accept apostilles; our country guide lists the rest.

Cedar Hill Apostille FAQ

How do I know if my Cedar Hill record is in Dallas or Ellis County?

Check the certificate or decree itself; it names the issuing county. Only a small southern part of Cedar Hill is in Ellis County, so most local records are held by Dallas County.

Can the South Dallas Government Center give me a certified marriage record?

The Justice of the Peace 1-2 office there accepts formal marriage license applications. For a certified copy of a recorded marriage, contact the Dallas County Clerk’s Vital Records division at 500 Elm Street or order through its online portal.

Will an Ellis County abstract birth certificate work for an apostille?

Ellis County describes its abstract as a certified legal document, but some foreign agencies insist on a long-form certificate. Ask the receiving office before ordering, and request the long form from Texas Vital Statistics if needed.

Do you have a Cedar Hill office where I can drop off documents?

No. We do not have an office in Cedar Hill or elsewhere in Texas. Clients mail or courier their documents to us, and we submit them to the Texas Secretary of State in Austin.

Can I apostille a Cedar Hill ISD diploma?

Yes, once it is notarized properly, either through a registrar’s notarized letter or a notary’s certified copy. We then submit it to the Texas Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State’s Authentications Unit, at 400 West 15th Street in Austin, can take up to two weeks to process mail requests after receipt. In person it offers same-day service, walk-in on Mondays and Fridays and by appointment Tuesday through Thursday. Requests are filed on Form 2102, which we complete. We do not promise our own turnaround because the state’s processing controls it. See pricing for details.

FBI background checks are an exception to all of the above: they are federal and are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State. Read about our FBI apostille service if that is what you need.
