Apostille Service in League City, Texas

Apostille Request Form

League City sits on the southern shore of Clear Lake, between Houston and Galveston, in the part of the region locals call the Bay Area. The Greater Houston Partnership points to the city’s closeness to NASA Johnson Space Center and the Houston Spaceport as one reason aerospace work keeps growing here. People in that line of work, and their families, tend to collect passports, visas and foreign paperwork.

When an overseas employer, university or consulate asks for an apostille, Apostille Authentications can take the job off your plate. We prepare Texas documents and file them with the Texas Secretary of State on your behalf. All of our League City work is handled by mail or courier; there is no local office to visit.

Aerospace, Research and Bay Area Careers That Cross Borders

Space programs are international by nature, and so are many of the jobs around Clear Lake. The city’s economic development targets also include advanced manufacturing, research and development, maritime and logistics, and corporate headquarters, and League City lies within about 50 miles of four major ports and two petrochemical clusters, according to the Greater Houston Partnership.

Requests we see from this kind of workforce include:

  • Engineering degrees and transcripts for work permits or professional registration in Europe, Asia or Latin America.
  • Powers of attorney signed before a notary so a relative can handle property or banking abroad during a long assignment.
  • Company records, such as a certificate of formation or a notarized board resolution, for a contractor opening a foreign branch.
  • Marriage and birth certificates so a spouse and children can join an employee on a dependent visa.

Galveston County Offices Close to Home

Almost all of League City falls in Galveston County. Rather than driving to the county seat on the island, many residents start at the North County Annex on Calder Road, which hosts both clerk offices.

Addresses and phone numbers come from Galveston County’s North County Annex page and the District Clerk’s locations page. Birth and death certificates can also be ordered from Texas Vital Statistics (DSHS); select “Apostille” as your reason so the certificate is issued in a form the state will authenticate.

One wrinkle: a small slice of the city north of Clear Creek belongs to Harris County. If your event was recorded there, the Harris County Clerk or Harris County District Clerk holds the record instead.

Diplomas and Transcripts From Clear Creek ISD and Nearby Colleges

Clear Creek ISD has its headquarters on East Main Street in League City and serves most of the Clear Lake area; Dickinson ISD and Santa Fe ISD cover smaller parts of the city. Graduates heading to universities abroad often need a high school diploma or transcript apostilled.

For higher education, College of the Mainland serves the Galveston County side of the city, San Jacinto College serves the Harris County side, and the University of Houston-Clear Lake is a few miles away. Whatever the school, the steps look similar:

  1. Request the record from the registrar and ask that it be signed before a notary, or that a notarized certified copy be issued.
  2. Keep the seal and signature intact; do not staple, laminate or unbind the pages.
  3. Send it to us with the destination country noted on your order.

What the Texas Secretary of State Does With Your Papers

Apostilles for Texas-issued records come from one place: the Authentications Unit of the Secretary of State, located at 400 West 15th Street in Austin. The state checks the signature of the clerk, registrar or notary on your document and attaches a certificate that Hague Convention countries accept.

  • The government charges $15 per document. Our service adds $195 per document on top of that state fee.
  • Mailed requests can take up to two weeks after the state receives them.
  • The counter in Austin can finish requests the same day, with walk-in service on Mondays and Fridays and appointments Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Each submission goes in with Form 2102, which we complete for you.

Because the state sets its own pace, we don’t quote a fixed finish date. Our Texas apostille page explains the process in more depth.

When an Apostille Is Not the Answer

Some League City requests need a different path:

  • FBI background checks are federal documents. The U.S. Department of State apostilles them, not Texas. See our FBI apostille service.
  • Non-Hague destinations such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait require embassy legalization. Our country list shows which route applies.
  • Foreign-language requirements may call for a certified translation after the apostille is attached.

Checklist Before You Mail From League City

A few minutes of checking can save a rejected request and a second trip to the annex:

  • Confirm the county. Galveston County, Harris County and the state registrar each issue different certified copies. The issuing office is printed on the document.
  • Use a recent certified copy. Some foreign authorities refuse older copies, and a decorative hospital certificate is never accepted.
  • Check notary details. On a notarized document, the notary’s name, commission expiration date and seal must be legible and complete.
  • Know who will read it. If the receiving office works in another language, plan for a certified translation through our translation service.
  • Note any deadlines. Visa appointments and school enrollment dates are fixed, so start well ahead of them because the state sets its own processing pace.

League City Apostille Questions

Can I pick up Galveston County records at the League City annex instead of driving to Galveston?

The North County Annex at 174 N. Calder Road houses both a County Clerk office and a District Clerk office. The county’s annex page does not spell out which record types each counter issues, so call the County Clerk at (281) 316-8732 or the District Clerk at (281) 316-8729 before you go.

My home is north of Clear Creek. Is my record in Galveston County?

Not necessarily. A small part of League City north of Clear Creek is in Harris County. Records filed there are held by Harris County offices, so check the county printed on your certificate or decree.

I work near Johnson Space Center and need a degree apostilled for an overseas assignment. Where do I start?

Ask your university registrar for a notarized copy of the diploma or transcript, then send it to us with the name of the destination country. If the country is outside the Hague Convention, we will explain the legalization route instead.

Is a Galveston County divorce decree apostilled by the county?

No. The Galveston County District Clerk issues the certified copy, and the Texas Secretary of State in Austin attaches the apostille.
