Apostille Service in Beaumont, Texas

Apostille Request Form

Beaumont grew up around oil. The Spindletop gusher of January 10, 1901 turned it into a refining center, and more than a century later the city is still tied to global energy markets. It is also the Jefferson County seat and home to Lamar University, which draws students from dozens of countries.

That combination means Beaumont residents regularly need Texas records accepted overseas: a degree for a job in another country, a birth certificate for a foreign passport, or a court order for a custody case abroad. Those records need an apostille from the Texas Secretary of State.

Apostille Authentications prepares and submits Beaumont documents by mail and courier. There is no Beaumont branch; you send the paperwork, we review it, file it in Austin and return it.

Lamar University Degrees and Transcripts

Lamar University is a member of the Texas State University System, enrolls more than 18,000 students and reports students from 62 countries on campus. Founded in 1923 as South Park Junior College, it is also the city’s largest employer according to 2018 figures.

Lamar graduates who need an apostille usually fall into one of three groups:

  • International alumni returning home who must show a recognized U.S. degree to an employer or ministry.
  • Engineering and science graduates taking positions with energy companies abroad.
  • Teachers and nurses applying for licenses or contracts in another country.

Texas will not apostille an original diploma by itself. Ask the Lamar registrar for an official transcript or a degree verification letter, or prepare a copy of the diploma, and have a Texas notary complete the notarial certificate. The notary’s signature is what the Secretary of State authenticates.

If the destination requires the documents in another language, our translation team can translate the apostilled set.

Ordering Records at the Pearl Street Courthouse

Most Jefferson County records used for apostilles come from two offices in the courthouse at 1085 Pearl Street.

Mail for the County Clerk goes to P.O. Box 1151, Beaumont, TX 77704-1151. The District Clerk also lists separate lines for child support and for its Port Arthur office.

The City of Beaumont is a local registrar too, and Texas DSHS lists it as offering Texas birth records and local death records. If you order from the state instead, mark “Apostille” as the reason on the DSHS application.

Energy, Hospital and Military Families

Beaumont’s largest employers explain many of the requests we receive. According to 2018 employer data, major employers include:

  • ExxonMobil’s Beaumont Refinery, which covers more than 2,000 acres and is the city’s largest private employer.
  • Beaumont ISD, the City of Beaumont and Jefferson County government.
  • Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital and Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas.

The Port of Beaumont, one of the largest U.S. seaports by tonnage, also hosts the Army’s 842nd Transportation Battalion and 596th Transportation Group. Service members and civilian employees moving overseas often need apostilled birth and marriage certificates for dependents.

Keep in mind that federal records, including FBI identity history summaries, are authenticated by the U.S. Department of State rather than Texas. Our FBI apostille page explains that route.

Mistakes That Send Beaumont Documents Back

The Secretary of State can only authenticate a signature it has on file, so small preparation errors cause most rejections. These are the ones we catch most often on Jefferson County paperwork:

  • Hospital birth souvenirs. The decorative certificate from the hospital is not a vital record. Only a certified copy from the County Clerk, the city registrar or DSHS works.
  • Uncertified court copies. A decree printed from an attorney’s file or an online portal lacks the District Clerk’s certification.
  • Incomplete notary blocks. Diploma copies and affidavits need a full notarial certificate with the notary’s name, commission expiration and seal.
  • Out-of-state notaries. A document notarized in Louisiana, for example, must be authenticated by that state, not Texas.
  • Laminated or altered originals. Lamination, staples removed from a multi-page certified record, or handwritten notes can make a document unusable.

If you are unsure whether a copy qualifies, send us a photo first. For general background on how Texas handles these requests, see our Texas apostille overview.

From a Beaumont Mailbox to the Secretary of State

  1. Tell us the destination country. This decides whether you need an apostille or embassy legalization.
  2. Collect certified or notarized originals. Use the County Clerk, District Clerk, city registrar or Lamar registrar as needed.
  3. Ship the documents to us. We check signatures, seals and notarial wording before filing.
  4. We file with the state. The Authentications Unit at 400 West 15th Street in Austin receives the documents with Form 2102.
  5. Return delivery. The authenticated documents come back to you in Beaumont or go directly to the receiving party.

Countries outside the Hague Convention, such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, require legalization at an embassy instead. Check our list of apostille countries first.

Fees for Beaumont Clients

ChargeAmountNotes
Apostille Authentications service$195Per document
Texas Secretary of State$15Per document, state fee

State processing for mailed requests can take up to two weeks from the day the Authentications Unit receives them. The unit also serves walk-in customers on Mondays and Fridays and by appointment Tuesday through Thursday, with same-day results at the counter. Because the state sets those times, we do not promise our own turnaround.

Fees are charged per document, not per order. A family relocating overseas might send a birth certificate for each child, a marriage certificate and a notarized degree; each one receives its own apostille and is billed separately. Tell us the full list up front and we will confirm the total before you mail anything, so there are no surprises when the package reaches Austin.
