Apostille Service in Atascocita, Texas
Apostille Request Form
Atascocita takes its name from the Spanish Atascocito outpost and road of 1756, so the community has had ties beyond U.S. borders for a long time. Today it is a census-designated place of more than 88,000 people on the western shore of Lake Houston, roughly 18 miles northeast of downtown Houston. It has no city government, which shapes where its residents go for official records.
When someone in Atascocita needs a document recognized in another country, the usual answer is an apostille from the Texas Secretary of State. Apostille Authentications prepares and files those requests for Lake Houston clients by mail and courier. We are not based in Atascocita and do not keep a storefront there; our work is the state filing in Austin and getting your documents back to you.
Unincorporated Means Harris County Holds Your Records
Since Atascocita is not a city, there is no municipal clerk. Vital records, marriage licenses and court files all sit with Harris County. For most residents the nearest County Clerk location is the Humble Annex, a short drive west along FM 1960.

Harris County lists weekday hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for clerk locations, and birth and death certificates go only to eligible requesters with ID. Confirm details on the County Clerk’s locations page and the District Clerk’s hours page.
One wrinkle for Lake Houston families: Montgomery County’s vital-records portal notes that long-form records for births at HCA Healthcare Kingwood come from the City of Houston. If your child was born at a Kingwood or Humble hospital, check which office actually registered the birth before ordering.
Energy Jobs, Airport Access and Overseas Assignments
The Lake Houston area has grown into more than a bedroom community. Local reporting on the area economy names TechnipFMC, with a 173-acre campus in Generation Park, and Apache Industrial Services, headquartered there, among the employers drawing workers to the northeast side. Health systems are expanding nearby too, including Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble and HCA Healthcare’s Kingwood Medical Center.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport is also close by, and that same reporting ties the area’s hotel growth to airport proximity. For residents, it means international work and travel are part of daily life. Engineers rotating to projects abroad, nurses applying for licenses in other countries, and families relocating with an employer all end up needing apostilled paperwork.
School Records From Humble ISD and Lone Star College
Atascocita students attend the Humble Independent School District, and Atascocita High School serves most of the community. Graduates who head overseas for university, or who teach English abroad, often need an apostilled diploma or transcript.
Higher education is close as well. The Lone Star College Atascocita Center at 15903 West Lake Houston Parkway is a satellite of LSC-Kingwood, and the University of Houston–Downtown has offered an evening business administration bachelor’s program there.
To prepare a school record:
- Ask the registrar for an official copy signed in front of a notary, or a copy bearing a certification the Secretary of State will accept.
- Keep the document sealed and unaltered; do not laminate or staple anything to it.
- For degrees earned in another state, the apostille must come from that state, not Texas.
From Your Kitchen Table to Austin: Our Process
- Call or email us with the document type and destination country.
- We check whether the country accepts apostilles. Non-Hague countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait require embassy legalization instead, which follows a different path.
- You mail or courier the certified original to us with our request form.
- We prepare the state paperwork and file with the Texas Secretary of State’s Authentications Unit.
- The apostilled document comes back to you by tracked shipment.

Before You Ship: A Quick Checklist
Most delays come from small problems that are easy to catch at home. Run through this list before sealing the envelope:
- Certified, not copied. The document should carry a raised or printed seal from the issuing office. A scan or photocopy of a certified record will be turned away.
- Correct issuing state. Texas can only apostille Texas records. A parent’s birth certificate from Louisiana, for example, must go through Louisiana.
- Recent enough. Some countries want vital records issued within the last few months. Ask the receiving office whether there is an age limit before you order.
- Names match. If your name changed through marriage or a court order, include the linking document so officials abroad can follow the trail.
- Nothing attached. Remove sticky notes and staples, and never laminate an original.
- Request form included. Note the destination country on our form so we can confirm the apostille route.
If anything on the list is uncertain, a quick call to us before mailing can prevent a second trip to the Humble Annex.
Cost and Timing Facts
- Who issues it: Texas Secretary of State, Authentications Unit, 400 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701.
- Government charge: $15 per document.
- Our charge: $195 per document, with the $15 state charge added on top.
- State timing by mail: as long as two weeks from the date the office receives the request.
- State timing in person: same day at the Austin counter, with walk-in service on Mondays and Fridays and appointments Tuesday through Thursday.
- Form used: Form 2102.
We cannot guarantee a finish date of our own because the state controls its queue. Full fees are on our pricing page.
One exception to the Texas route: an FBI Identity History Summary is federal, so it must be apostilled by the US Department of State.
Frequently Asked by Atascocita Residents
Which Harris County office is closest for a birth certificate?
For most of Atascocita it is the County Clerk’s Humble Annex at 7900 Will Clayton Parkway in Humble. You can also order a Texas birth certificate from the state’s Vital Statistics office.
Is Atascocita part of Humble or Houston?
Neither. Atascocita is an unincorporated census-designated place in Harris County, so county and state offices issue its records.
My Humble ISD diploma is going to a school in Spain. What do I need?
Spain is a Hague Convention member, so a Texas apostille on a properly notarized or certified diploma is usually what is required. Ask the school whether it also wants a sworn Spanish translation.
Can I get a Harris County divorce decree apostilled without going downtown?
Yes. You can request a certified copy from the Harris County District Clerk and then send it to us by mail; you do not need to visit Austin.
Do you have an office near Lake Houston?
No. We serve Atascocita by mail and courier and submit your documents to the Texas Secretary of State on your behalf.
