Apostille Service in New Braunfels, Texas

Apostille Request Form

New Braunfels began in 1845, when Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels bought 1,265 acres and led German emigrants to settle it. The local visitors bureau calls it the only Texas city founded by German royalty. Today New Braunfels is the Comal County seat, with residents whose personal and business lives often reach across borders.

When a foreign authority asks for an apostilled Texas document, Apostille Authentications prepares the request and submits it to the Texas Secretary of State. We serve New Braunfels clients by mail and courier and have no local office. Below you will find the Comal County offices that issue certified records, the employers and situations that create apostille needs here, and how our apostille service in New Braunfels, Texas works.

Certified Records From the Comal County Seat

Both the County Clerk and the District Clerk work out of 150 N. Seguin Avenue in downtown New Braunfels.

A few practical points:

  • The County Clerk also has branch offices in Sattler (160 Oak Drive, 830-387-7704) and Bulverde (30470 Cougar Bend, 830-387-7620). Call to confirm which services each branch provides.
  • Comal County offers an online vital records ordering portal for birth, death and marriage records. Death records are limited to deaths within Comal County.
  • Part of New Braunfels lies in Guadalupe County. Events there are recorded by Guadalupe County offices rather than Comal County.
  • For any Texas birth or death, you may also order from Texas Vital Statistics (DSHS). Choose Apostille as the reason for the request.

German Roots and Documents for Germany

The city’s German founding still shows up in its festivals, including Wurstfest every November, and in the family histories of many longtime residents. Germany is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so Texas documents headed to German authorities generally need an apostille, not embassy legalization.

New Braunfels families dealing with German offices commonly need:

  • Certified Texas birth and marriage certificates for registering a child’s birth or a marriage with German authorities
  • Divorce decrees to prove a prior marriage has ended
  • Death certificates for estate and inheritance matters
  • Notarized powers of attorney for property or banking matters in Germany

German offices may also ask for a certified translation. Our translation services can help once the apostille is in place.

Older records can be a challenge. Comal County’s online vital records portal notes that its birth records for the county and surrounding areas go back to 1906. If you need a record from before that, or one that was never filed with the county, contact Texas Vital Statistics or the county clerk to ask what certified alternatives exist before you plan an apostille.

Local Employers With International Reach

The City of New Braunfels lists its top employers as including Comal ISD, Schlitterbahn Water Park, New Braunfels ISD, a Wal-Mart distribution center, Hunter Industries, TaskUs, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and Rush Enterprises, along with Comal County and the city itself.

Some of these organizations operate internationally, and their employees and business units can need apostilles for:

  • Texas certificates of formation or status for foreign subsidiaries, contracts or bank accounts
  • Notarized board resolutions and powers of attorney for signatories abroad
  • Teacher credentials and diplomas for educators from Comal ISD or New Braunfels ISD accepting positions overseas
  • Nursing and medical diplomas for healthcare workers registering in another country

For district records, ask Comal ISD or New Braunfels ISD for a certified copy signed before a notary. University records follow the same rule: a registrar’s signature, notarized in Texas.

If your employer’s human resources team is coordinating an assignment abroad, ask them for the host country’s document list. We can work directly from that list and tell you which items are Texas records, which are federal, and which need a notary first.

Getting Your Apostille Without the Drive to Austin

The only office that apostilles Texas documents is the Authentications Unit of the Secretary of State, 400 West 15th Street, Austin. It welcomes walk-ins on Mondays and Fridays and sees appointments Tuesday through Thursday, with in-person requests typically done the same day. By mail, processing may take up to two weeks after the state receives the request.

From New Braunfels, mailing your documents to us saves the trip up I-35. Our steps:

  1. Review: Send us scans; we check certification, signatures and notary details.
  2. Ship: Mail the originals with tracking.
  3. File: We complete Form 2102 and include the state fee.
  4. Return: We send the apostilled documents back to you, or directly to the recipient abroad.

We do not promise our own turnaround dates; the state sets processing time.

Fees per document: $195 for our service and $15 for the Texas state fee, plus shipping. Full details are on our pricing page, and statewide requirements are on our Texas apostille service page.

Living Between San Antonio and Austin

New Braunfels sits on the Interstate 35 corridor between two large metro areas, so residents frequently hold records from Bexar, Travis or other counties. Keep in mind:

  • A record issued anywhere in Texas can be apostilled by the Texas Secretary of State; it does not need to come from Comal County.
  • Each certified copy must come from the office that holds the original, such as the county clerk or district clerk where the event happened.
  • Birth and death certificates can be ordered from Texas Vital Statistics regardless of which Texas county the event happened in.

If your file mixes Texas records with documents from another state or a federal agency, send us the complete list. We will sort out which items go to the Texas Secretary of State and which need another authority, so nothing is filed in the wrong place.

Exceptions Worth Knowing

  • FBI background checks are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State, not by Texas. See our FBI apostille service.
  • Non-Hague countries such as the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait require embassy legalization.
  • Records from other states must be apostilled by the state that issued them, even if you now live in New Braunfels.
