Apostille Service in DeSoto, Texas

Apostille Request Form

DeSoto has grown into a distribution and manufacturing town on the southern edge of Dallas County. The DeSoto Development Corporation lists employers such as SEW-Eurodrive, Solar Turbines, Interstate Batteries, Kohler, Eurofins, Diab, Ryder Integrated Logistics, Kenco Logistics, NFI and a Walmart distribution center, and it points to quick access to I-35, I-20, I-45 and U.S. 67. Companies that ship parts, sign supplier agreements or post employees overseas eventually run into a foreign request for an apostille.

Apostille Authentications prepares and files those requests with the Texas Secretary of State for DeSoto clients. We operate by mail and courier and do not have an office in DeSoto. Families in the city use the same process for the birth, marriage and divorce records they need overseas, and for school records.

Trade and Supply-Chain Documents from DeSoto Companies

Buyers, regulators and customs authorities abroad sometimes want proof that a Texas document is genuine before they rely on it. For DeSoto’s logistics, manufacturing and life-science employers, that tends to mean:

DocumentTypical foreign useWhat Texas needs first
Certificate of fact or certificate of formationRegistering a branch, bidding on a contract, opening a bank accountCertified copy from the Texas Secretary of State
Manufacturer’s declaration or certificate of originCustoms clearance or product registrationOfficer’s signature before a Texas notary
Power of attorneyAppointing a customs broker, distributor or local lawyerNotarized in Texas
Laboratory or quality statementRegulatory submissions for products sold abroadSigned and notarized by an authorized employee
Employee letter or contractWork permit for a transferred staff memberSigned by HR before a notary

The Secretary of State authenticates the official or notary who signed, not the commercial content. If a foreign authority also wants the document in its language, we can arrange a certified translation through our translation service.

Personal Records for DeSoto Households

DeSoto residents bring us the usual life-event documents, often tied to marriage, relocation or family abroad:

  • A certified birth certificate for a passport or citizenship application in another country.
  • A marriage record to register the marriage with a foreign consulate or to support a spouse’s visa.
  • A divorce decree so a former spouse can remarry overseas.
  • A death certificate to close accounts or claim benefits in another country.
  • A notarized affidavit or power of attorney for a property matter abroad.

DeSoto ISD, with roughly 8,000 students and a partnership with Panthera BioSolutions to build biotech skills, also produces diplomas and transcripts that graduates may need apostilled for study abroad. Those school records must be notarized first, either through a registrar’s notarized letter or a notary’s certified copy. Dallas College’s Cedar Valley campus in nearby Lancaster serves the area’s community college students in the same way.

Dallas County Offices That Serve DeSoto

All of DeSoto lies within Dallas County, which keeps the record hunt simpler than in neighboring Cedar Hill. Use these offices:

  • Births, deaths and marriages: Dallas County Clerk, Vital Records, Records Building, 500 Elm Street, Suite 2100, Dallas, TX 75202. Phone (214) 653-7099. Weekday hours are posted as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Divorce decrees and court orders: Dallas County District Clerk, George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building, 600 Commerce Street, Dallas, TX 75202. Phone (214) 653-7301.
  • Nearest county building: the South Dallas Government Center at 8301 S. Polk Street, where Justice of the Peace 1-2 accepts formal marriage license applications on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons; (972) 228-2272.
  • Statewide alternative: Texas Vital Statistics (DSHS) issues birth and death certificates for any Texas county. Pick Apostille as the reason on the application.

Mail requests to the county clerk can be paid by money order; current fees are on the Dallas County Clerk’s site.

When Translations Enter the Picture

A supplier contract written in German, a product sheet in Spanish or a birth certificate headed for a Portuguese-speaking registry can all raise a translation question. Texas treats a translation as a private document: the translator signs a statement of accuracy before a Texas notary, and that notarized translation can then receive its own apostille.

Order matters. Some foreign offices want the original document apostilled and then translated, apostille included. Others want the translation apostilled as well. Ask the receiving office which sequence it expects before anything is filed, so you do not pay for a second round. Our pricing page shows how per-document fees apply when a translation is apostilled separately.

State Authority, Federal Authority, or an Embassy?

Picking the right authority is where many DeSoto requests go wrong.

Texas Secretary of State. Handles Texas public records, Texas notarizations and its own business filings. This covers most of what DeSoto clients send us.

U.S. Department of State. Handles federal documents. The most common example is an FBI Identity History Summary for a foreign visa or job; see our FBI apostille service.

Foreign embassy or consulate. Countries outside the Hague Apostille Convention, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait, require embassy legalization rather than an apostille. Our country guide helps you check.

Four Steps from DeSoto to Austin

  1. Gather the document. Order a recent certified copy, or have the private document notarized by a Texas notary. State guidance asks that recordable documents be under five years old.
  2. Send it to us. Include the destination country and your contact details.
  3. We review and file. We check seals and signatures, complete Form 2102 and submit to the Authentications Unit of the Texas Secretary of State, 400 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701.
  4. The state issues the apostille. Mailed requests can take up to two weeks from receipt. The Austin counter offers same-day service, with walk-ins Monday and Friday and appointments Tuesday through Thursday.

The state fee is $15 per document. Our service fee is $195 per document, charged in addition to the state fee. We do not promise our own processing deadlines, since timing depends on the Secretary of State.

DeSoto Apostille Questions

Is all of DeSoto in Dallas County?

Yes. DeSoto is entirely in Dallas County, so certified vital records come from the Dallas County Clerk or Texas Vital Statistics, and divorce decrees come from the Dallas County District Clerk.

Can our DeSoto warehouse’s certificate of origin be apostilled?

Yes, if a company officer signs it in front of a Texas notary. The Secretary of State then apostilles the notarization.

Where is the closest Dallas County office to DeSoto?

The South Dallas Government Center at 8301 S. Polk Street in Dallas houses Justice of the Peace 1-2, which accepts formal marriage license applications. Certified birth, death and marriage records are issued by the County Clerk at 500 Elm Street.

Can a DeSoto High School transcript be apostilled?

Yes, after DeSoto ISD or a notary provides a properly notarized version. An unsigned or un-notarized transcript cannot be apostilled.

How much does an apostille cost for a DeSoto document?

Our service fee is $195 per document, plus the $15 Texas state fee per document. The cost of ordering a certified copy and shipping are separate.
