Apostille Service in Missouri City, Texas

Apostille Request Form

Missouri City residents have an advantage many Texans don’t: the county records they need for an apostille are often a short drive away. Fort Bend County runs two County Clerk counters inside the city, and the District Clerk keeps a branch at the Sienna Annex. That makes it easier to pick up a fresh certified copy before it goes to the state.

The city has an unusual backstory. In 1890, investors bought land along the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway and marketed it to buyers in St. Louis, which is how a Texas suburb ended up named for Missouri. It incorporated in 1956 and is now a largely residential community southwest of Houston.

Apostille Authentications takes it from there. We review your Missouri City documents and file them with the Texas Secretary of State, working by mail and courier. We do not have an office in Missouri City.

Three Fort Bend County Counters Inside Missouri City

Here are the county offices located in the city, as published on the Fort Bend County Clerk’s contact page and the District Clerk’s contact page:

OfficeAddressWhat you can request
County Clerk, Texas Parkway307 Texas Pkwy, Suite 102, Missouri City, TX 77489Birth and death records, marriage certificates, property and DBA records
County Clerk, Sienna5855 Sienna Springs Way, Suite 118, Missouri City, TX 77459Same services as the Texas Parkway office
District Clerk, Sienna Annex5855 Sienna Springs Way, Suite 146, Missouri City, TX 77459District court records, including divorce decrees

The County Clerk lobbies are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and stay open through lunch. The County Clerk’s main line is (281) 341-8685; the District Clerk’s is (281) 341-4515. Both have larger offices in Richmond, the county seat, if a branch cannot help.

When you request a copy for use abroad, ask for a certified copy bearing the clerk’s signature and seal. Abstracts, verification letters and plain photocopies cannot be apostilled, and the state will send them back.

If you prefer, order birth and death certificates from Texas Vital Statistics (DSHS) and choose “Apostille” as the reason.

A Fort Bend Community With Ties Around the World

Fort Bend County describes itself as ranked fifth among the ten U.S. counties with the highest diversity index in 2020, citing U.S. Census Bureau data. Missouri City reflects that mix: 2020 census figures show substantial Black, Asian, Hispanic and white populations, with no single group forming a majority.

A diverse population means a wide spread of destination countries. Requests we often prepare for Fort Bend families include:

  • Birth certificates for a child’s foreign citizenship or passport application.
  • Marriage records to register a marriage with a home-country civil registry.
  • Divorce decrees so a person can remarry or update their status abroad.
  • Notarized powers of attorney for property, inheritance or banking matters overseas.

Because rules differ by country, look up your destination on our apostille country list first.

School Records: Fort Bend ISD and Houston City College

Fort Bend ISD serves the Fort Bend County side of Missouri City, with high schools including Elkins, Hightower, Thurgood Marshall and Willowridge. Houston ISD serves the Harris County portion. For college, the city falls in the service area of Houston City College, which was known as Houston Community College until its 2025 name change.

Students applying to universities abroad, and graduates taking teaching or nursing jobs overseas, typically need:

  • A diploma copy or transcript signed by a school official before a notary.
  • Sometimes a course description letter, also notarized.
  • A background check, which may be a federal FBI report.

Keep originals sealed and unaltered. A record that has been opened, highlighted or re-stapled can be refused.

Notarized Papers: Powers of Attorney, Affidavits and Letters

Not every apostille starts at a clerk’s window. Many Missouri City clients need a document they write or sign themselves, then have notarized. Common examples:

  • Power of attorney letting a relative sell land, manage a bank account or collect an inheritance abroad.
  • Travel consent letter for a minor flying overseas with one parent or a grandparent.
  • Affidavit of single status required by some countries before a marriage there.
  • Employment or reference letter for a foreign work permit.

For these, the Texas Secretary of State authenticates the notary, not the content. That means the notary block has to be complete: the notary’s printed name, signature, seal and commission expiration date. If the receiving country wants the text in its own language, ask whether it should be translated before signing or after the apostille. Our translation team can help with either approach.

The State Step, Explained Simply

No county office in Texas issues apostilles. Your certified copy or notarized document goes to the Authentications Unit of the Texas Secretary of State at 400 West 15th Street in Austin, along with Form 2102.

Key numbers to know:

  • $15 per document goes to the state.
  • $195 per document is our service fee, charged in addition to the state’s $15.
  • Requests mailed to Austin can take up to two weeks once the office has them.
  • In person, the office can finish the same day: walk-in on Mondays and Fridays, by appointment Tuesday through Thursday.

We can’t promise a completion date of our own, since the state controls processing. Our Texas apostille page covers the state process in more detail, including what happens when a document is returned unprocessed.

FBI Checks and Embassy Legalization

An FBI background check is not a Texas document, so the U.S. Department of State issues the apostille. We handle these through our FBI apostille service.

If you are sending papers to a country outside the Hague Convention, such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar or Kuwait, the document needs embassy legalization rather than an apostille. Tell us the country up front and we’ll explain the steps.

Missouri City Apostille FAQ

Which Missouri City clerk office should I visit for a birth certificate?

Fort Bend County lists two County Clerk offices in the city: 307 Texas Parkway, Suite 102, and 5855 Sienna Springs Way, Suite 118. Both list birth and death records and marriage certificates. Call (281) 341-8685 to confirm before you go, since the county says not all services are offered everywhere.

Can I get a certified divorce decree without going to Richmond?

The Fort Bend County District Clerk lists a branch at the Sienna Annex, 5855 Sienna Springs Way, Suite 146. Call (281) 341-4515 to confirm it can produce the certified copy you need.

Part of Missouri City is in Harris County. Does that change anything?

Only if your record was filed there. Events recorded in the Harris County portion are held by the Harris County Clerk or District Clerk, not Fort Bend County.

My child graduated from a Fort Bend ISD high school and is studying abroad. What do we send?

Ask the school for a diploma or transcript signed before a notary, then send it to us with the country name. We submit it to the Texas Secretary of State for the apostille.
