Apostille Service in San Angelo, Texas

Apostille Request Form

San Angelo is home to Goodfellow Air Force Base, Angelo State University and a regional medical community, and each of those sends people overseas with paperwork in hand. If a foreign government, school or employer wants an apostille on your San Angelo documents, Apostille Authentications can take care of the state step for you, entirely by mail.

Please note that we are not located in San Angelo. Clients in Tom Green County mail or courier their documents to us, and we file them with the Texas Secretary of State. From the Concho Valley, Austin is a long day of driving there and back, and handing off the errand lets you keep that day.

Goodfellow AFB: Paperwork for Moves Abroad

Goodfellow is run by the 17th Training Wing, which focuses on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance training and on fire protection training for multiple Department of Defense branches and international partners. According to the Texas Governor’s Office, the base directly employs about 6,220 people.

Because students and permanent staff rotate through regularly, San Angelo households often face a move abroad with little lead time. Documents frequently requested by host nations or overseas schools include:

  • Certified marriage certificates proving a spouse’s family status
  • Children’s birth certificates for school enrollment or residence registration
  • Diplomas and transcripts when a spouse seeks a job or professional license
  • Notarized powers of attorney for handling a house or car left behind in Texas

Military-issued records and anything from a federal agency are outside Texas jurisdiction. Those go to the U.S. Department of State, and our apostille and authentication service can explain the federal track.

Which Tom Green County Office Holds Your Record

San Angelo is the county seat of Tom Green County, and both clerks work out of buildings on West Beauregard Avenue downtown.

  • County Clerk, 124 W. Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903. Main line (325) 659-6551. Birth and death certificates and marriage licenses: (325) 659-6556 or vitalstatistics@co.tom-green.tx.us. The office asks marriage applicants to arrive before 4 p.m.
  • District Clerk, Tom Green County Courthouse, 112 W. Beauregard. Civil and Family Department (325) 659-6579; Felony Department (325) 659-6582. This office holds divorce decrees, custody orders and name changes.

Office hours can change seasonally, so call ahead. Contact details come from the County Clerk’s site and the District Clerk’s site.

Getting a Birth or Death Certificate Without Visiting the Courthouse

If you are already packing for an overseas move, the County Clerk’s mail-in process may be easier than a trip downtown:

  1. Print and complete the application, and have page 3 signed and stamped by a notary.
  2. Copy your current government photo ID. With an expired license, the clerk also asks for your Social Security card.
  3. Pay $23 per birth certificate by money order made out to the Tom Green County Clerk’s Office, or by card through the county’s online payment provider after the office contacts you.
  4. Mail everything to the Attn: Vitals address above. You may include a prepaid next-day envelope.

The long-form certificate covers Tom Green County births only; births elsewhere in Texas come as an abstract. Texas Vital Statistics (DSHS) is another source. If you order there, mark “Apostille” as your reason.

Angelo State, Howard College and San Angelo ISD Records

Angelo State University, part of the Texas Tech University System since 2007, enrolls roughly 10,000 students and offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs. Howard College operates a San Angelo branch with transfer, technical and occupational programs. Graduates of San Angelo ISD’s Central and Lake View high schools sometimes need diplomas certified for university abroad as well.

Diplomas and transcripts are not public records, so they require a Texas notarization before an apostille can be issued. If the destination also asks for a certified translation, we offer translation services.

Students heading abroad for a semester or a full degree should ask the foreign university early about its document rules. Some programs want the apostille on the diploma itself, others on an official transcript, and a few want both. Getting that answer in writing before you order notarized copies from Angelo State or Howard College avoids paying for an apostille on the wrong document. Once you know, we can review the notarized copies before they head to the state.

Concho Valley Employers and Business Documents

Beyond the base, San Angelo has a broad economy for a city its size. Major employers include Shannon Medical Center, Angelo State University and Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company, and the city is home to Producer’s Livestock Auction, described as the nation’s largest sheep and lamb auction. Oilfield service firms and the regional healthcare system employ many residents too.

Those sectors generate their own international paperwork:

  • Nurses and physicians submitting license verifications or training certificates to foreign medical boards
  • Ranching and agricultural businesses providing company records or notarized sales agreements to buyers abroad
  • Employees transferring overseas within a larger corporation who need notarized employment letters

For a business document, the usual route is a Texas notarization (or a certified copy from the Secretary of State for filed corporate records), followed by the apostille. We review each item first so nothing is sent to Austin in a form the state will reject.

San Angelo and Tom Green County FAQs

We are a Goodfellow family with orders overseas. Which documents usually need apostilles?

It depends on the host country and what you plan to do there, but families are commonly asked for birth certificates, marriage certificates and diplomas, especially when a spouse wants to work or enroll in school. Check with the host country or your sponsor, then send us the certified Texas documents.

Can I order a Tom Green County birth certificate by mail?

Yes. The County Clerk accepts mailed applications with a notarized page and a copy of your photo ID, sent to the Clerk's Office, Attn: Vitals, 124 W. Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903. Certified copies are $23, and the office does not take personal checks.

Our child was born overseas while we were stationed abroad. Can Texas apostille that record?

No. Texas can only apostille documents issued in Texas. A Consular Report of Birth Abroad is a federal document, so the U.S. Department of State handles its apostille. The same goes for FBI background checks.

Is the abstract birth certificate good enough for an apostille?

The state can apostille a certified abstract, but some foreign authorities insist on the long form. The Tom Green County Clerk issues the long form for births in Tom Green County only, so confirm what the receiving office wants before you order.

Who has my divorce decree from a Tom Green County court?

The District Clerk, located at the Tom Green County Courthouse, 112 W. Beauregard. Call the Civil and Family Department at (325) 659-6579 and request a certified copy.
